PAMELA MAIDENS 02.03.1956 - 17.07.2013
It is a very sad time for myself and my family as we say goodbye to my wife, my children's mother, their children's grandmother, everyone who knew hers "Fairy God Mother", the love of my life, the pain in my side, my best friend, my battle axe, my wonderful Pam.
Sadly taken from us after a short and painful battle with cancer. She died peacefully in her sleep at 6.30am surrounded by the people who adored her. Many of you will have been witness to our, as we called it, bar routine. The insults and the looks were constant every time she appeared behind the bar but behind closed doors she was the most wonderful, loving and adoring wife anyone could wish for.
When we were told of her illness I decided I could no longer carry out my role as Landlord of The Blue Bell. The hours would have been far too long to work in the kitchen, behind the bar and be a full time carer for Pam so we decided it was time for us to leave. Events which are not in our control have meant I will no longer be Pams full time carer but I still feel that this is the end of the road for me as the custodian of your local. We were a team, the three of us, Pam, Angela and me. With one ingredient of our team no longer available the recipe doesn't work.
I know I speak for all of us when I say this has been a fabulous period of our lives. We have made some fantastic friends who we hope will not become strangers. We have had some brilliant times and some incredible laughs. Thank you all for sharing your time and lives with us.
